What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus
Keep yourself safe this season.
You’ve probably heard about the coronavirus on the news and there might be some fears coming up.
Here at Springboard, we want to help you with information that you need to know about it and how to keep you and your loved ones safe.
What is the coronavirus?
According to the Mayo Clinic, “The new coronavirus appears to be spreading from person to person. It may be spread by respiratory droplets when someone coughs or sneezes. But it’s unclear exactly how it spreads or how contagious it is. Research is ongoing. This virus is new, so not much is known about it yet.” It is known to be started in China and has rapidly spread, but the cases are not yet severe in America. It’s been officially renamed COVID-19, making over 43,000 sick and of that 1,000 have passed away. What’s important here is that only 400 cases have been confirmed outside of China, so the threat is not as dire for those in America.
What are the symptoms?
- Respiratory symptoms ranging from cough, chest infections and in severe cases pneumonia
- Cold and fever symptoms
- Headaches, aches and pains ranging from mild to severe
How to prevent contracting the coronavirus:
The most important thing is to treat this like any other winter flu. Wash your hands often and use hand sanitzer when traveling. Cover your mouth if you sneeze or cough to prevent it and wear a face mask if you are going into public places where others might be sick.
Having a strong immune system is essential, so prioritize sleep, keep your stress levels under control, and have a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
